Southwark Remembers

Because the 11th was a Sunday on Monday 12th September  Southwark remembered all those who serve in the war. Every class made a poppy wreath and held a minutes silence.

Good bye Mr Stark

It was a very sad day at Southwark on Friday as it was one of our music teachers last day :-(
Mr Stark has been teaching singing at Southwark for longer than most of the teachers could remember! We are all very sad to say good bye but know Mr Stark will come back and visit. After school there was a concert featuring choir, year 1 recorders, singing from year 2&3 and the strings assemble from years 4&6. The final song was dedicated to Mr Stark with all the children joining in the Olympic song.
Have a listen here

Thank you to all the musicians and there parents for coming it was a fantastic event!

The Queen visits Vernon Park

Every single child from Nursery through to year 6 went down to Vernon Park to see the Queen, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge. Vernon park was granted Queen Elizabeth II Fields In Trust status. Area band, including several members from Southwark played for the Queen. There was a variety of sporting events taking place, again featuring Southwark athletes. We even made it into the news! Premier League Football Kit

SOUTHWARK PRIMARY SCHOOL RECEIVES NEW KIT FROM PREMIER LEAGUE PLAYERS’ KIT SCHEME

  • Other local clubs encouraged to apply for kit for the new football season at www.premierleague.com

Premier League players have donated a new set of football kit to Southwark Primary School in Old Basford as a part of the Premier League Players’ Kit Scheme.

Southwark Primary School are one of over 1,000 teams to receive the kits after successfully applying to the Scheme.

The Premier League Players’ Kit Scheme is supported by the squads of all 20 Barclays Premier League clubs to provide U16 clubs, schools and youth organisations in England and Wales with free Nike football kit and equipment. Every Premier League squad donated £25,000 to the Scheme to create a £500,000 fund which aims to particularly benefit those who come from areas in most need of assistance.

A new application phase is now open and the Premier League is urging local clubs to follow in the footsteps of Southwark Primary School and apply for free kit for the new football season at premierleague.com.

The idea for the Players’ Kit Scheme originated at a meeting last summer between the Premier League, delegates from the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) and captains from all Premier League clubs. Following the meeting, the players committed to adopt the scheme to deliver these valuable resources to help provide footballing opportunities across the country.

One of the players at that meeting was Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, who has seen for himself the benefits of the initiative.

Carragher said: “Through the Premier League Players’ Kit scheme I donated a set of strips to my old primary school. I think it’s fantastic that all the players in the League are coming together for this. We all know that grassroots football is important because that’s where we started our journey.

“But we also know that it’s vitally important to have the right equipment. Not all young people can have access to that, especially those from deprived areas, so hopefully the Premier League Players’ Kit Scheme can help. Who knows, maybe this initiative might develop a few stars of the future.”

Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, added: “Congratulations to Southwark Primary School, they are deserving recipients of the Premier League Players’ Kit Scheme. The Scheme is already helping where it counts and since launching at the beginning of the 2011/12 season we have given away over 1,000 sets of kits to teams in England and Wales.

“The PFA and the Premier League players are to be congratulated for developing this important scheme as a League-wide initiative. Our players are the guys who put on the show all the way through the season but they are also very aware of the role their clubs play at the heart of their communities to positively change lives for the better.”

PFA Chief Executive, Gordon Taylor, added: “Our members do much more than entertain fans on the pitch and I’m proud of the fact that players donate so much to charitable causes. This is a new initiative for our players to be involved in but it is one I hope will encourage more tens of thousands of young people to participate and enjoy football.”

David Ince, Southwark Primary School’s Year 5/6 Football Coach, said: “It is a fantastic cause to be involved with and we’d like to thank the Premier League and their players for giving schools and clubs the opportunity to have a new kit that they previously wouldn’t have been able to afford. Our team have had a brilliant season and their enthusiasm and enjoyment of the game has shown through in all our matches. They were so proud to play in their new kit and the smiles on their faces said it all for me.”
